October 7: Webcast - California Special Education Law

Currently, close to 700,000 students with disabilities receive special education services in California, comprising about 10 percent of the state’s public school enrollment. The California Special Education Law 2015 program will provide attendees with a targeted look at a number of issues affecting the practice of special education law today.

  • An understanding of laws related to individualized transition plans
  • Strategies to address crossover issues pertaining to special education and higher education
  • Unique issues in special education related to the over or under representation of students of color in special education, segregated special programs, and discipline
  • Advocacy strategies for representing students with sensory disabilities
  • How Section 504 and the ADA interplay with the IDEA in multiple areas of special education law
  • The impact of recent case law overturning attorney fees awards to school districts under special education laws and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, but affirming such fee awards in claims under 1983 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
