September 9: St. Paul + Webcast - Are We Winning the War on Nutritional Poverty

Hamline Law Alum Bud Philbrook JD ’83, founder and chairman of the board of Global Volunteers and deputy undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture under President Obama, will kick off the Alumni Board Second Tuesday CLE series. Bud will explore whether the right to adequate nutrition and preventive health care in early childhood is adequately recognized in international human rights law and international anti-poverty programs today.
Contemporary research has shown that the lack of food, nutrition and protection from infectious disease during the first thousand days of life—pregnancy through the second birthday—affects children’s ability to learn, demonstrating a direct link between nutrition and poverty. Bud will demonstrate how these realities have been insufficiently addressed in public policy and legal responses to the nutrition crisis worldwide.
