September 30: Palo Alto + Webcast - Critical Start-Up Business & Legal Issues 2014

Entrepreneurs often have great ideas for new products or services, but need help navigating legal, organizational and competitive challenges to turning an idea into a new venture. Those entrepreneurs need attorneys who understand that their role goes beyond the basics of drafting and filing incorporation documents to include serving as business advisors on issues like board composition, business planning, founders’ equity, intellectual property protection and commercialization, and employment and trade secret issues.
This program will equip entrepreneurs with an increased practical understanding of how to launch a business and how to involve an attorney in a cost-effective manner. It will also expand the skills of attorneys advising entrepreneurial clients by helping them bridge the legal-business gap to provide increased value to those clients.
  • Forming and organizing a start-up, including timing, documents, board composition and capital structure
  • The place for business plans and financial projections
  • Attracting talent through founders’ equity
  • IP protection and commercialization, including benefits, liabilities and how to develop a business-specific strategy
  • Solutions to practical challenges in hiring, employing and navigating the complexities of trade secrets
Who should attend: Entrepreneurs, attorneys and others engaged in the early stages of a start-up will benefit from learning about the critical legal issues you must deal with from the very beginning of your business enterprise.
