October 1: DC - The ABCs of Representing Unaccompanied Children In Removal Proceedings

This year there has been a dramatic increase in the number of families and unaccompanied children from Central America crossing into the United States. The ABA is hosting "The ABCs of Representing Unaccompanied Children in Removal Proceedings" program to provide background information on unaccompanied minors and training on best practices in representing this unique population. The ABA recognizes the immediate need for additional trained pro bono counsel. This panel will discuss:

• Best practices for working with unaccompanied children
• Basics of immigration law and removal proceedings
• Ethical Considerations in representing unaccompanied minors
• Special Immigrant Juvenile visa
• Asylum law and initial jurisdiction issues for unaccompanied children's cases
• U and T visas.
